  1. Autogenic Inhibition: Prolonged Golgi tendon organ stimulation that provides an inhibitory action to muscle spindles located within the same muscle. NASM 7th Edition pg. 882 & 445 / NASM PODCAST HERE

  2. Reciprocal Inhibition: When an agonist receives a signal to contract, its functional antagonist also receives an inhibitory signal allowing it to lengthen. 4. Relative Flexibility: The process in which the bod seeks the path of least resistance during functional movement. NASM 7th Edition pg. 895 & 439. ALSO seen as, “Increased mobility or frequency of movement in a joint adjacent to a body part with restricted mobility. Relative flexibility can account for overuse, sprain, or strain of a joint due to stiffness in an adjacent joint” on Medical Dictionary HERE.

5. Hypertension: Consistently high blood pressure. Chart on 356. NASM 7th Edition pg. 775 & 164.

6. Body Mass Index: The measurement of a person's weight relative to his or her height, which is used to estimate the risks of obesity. BMI Equation: weight (kg) / height (m)2. NASM 7th Edition pg. 358. KNOW THE RANGES BELOW & the equation.

7. Planes of Motion: The planes of motion in which the human body moves (pages 192-195), which include:

  1. Sagittal plane: An imaginary bisector that divides the body into left and right halves allowing for flexion & extension in the anatomical position.

  2. Frontal aka Coronal: An imaginary bisector that divides the body into front and back halves allowing for abduction & adduction in the anatomical position.

  3. Transverse: An imaginary bisector that divides the body into top (superior) and bottom (inferior) halves allowing for internal & external rotation, horizontal abduction & horizontal adduction, radioulnar pronation, radioulnar supination and circumduction.
